The project involves the replacement of the internal water supply networks of the village Karteros of the Municipality of Hersonissos, with a total length of approximately 17.855 measures. The existing water supply network in the region presents a number of problems, most notably that of the age and of the leak.

The infrastructure of the area has quite a number of problems in the internal networks of water supply, as well as almost all of the pipes are aging and it is estimated that is lost due to leaks, more than 50% of the διανεμομένου water, while important part of the old network is clogged by limescale inappropriate water that was used in the past. It consists in many cases of siderosolines, plastic PVC tubes and αμιαντοσωλήνες over the age of fifty years.

Deliverables project

The deliverables of the project include:

(a) The water supply pipes (primary and secondary) in the whole area of the village within the urban fabric, including the areas south of the settlement of New york.E.The. Heraklion – Agios Nikolaos (BOAK) where a high density of real estate, consisting of polyethylene pipes 3rd generation 16 and 20 Atm


(b) The pipeline carrying water from the supply network of the Refinery of the Dam Aposelemis


(c) The control devices and safe operation of the network (valves, air valves, shocks, fire hydrants) and the corresponding wells,


(d) The replacement and reconstruction of the benefits of the water supply of consumers, as well as


(e) a new tank with a capacity of about 180κ.m. with all its equipment, in the franchised area in the Municipality of Hersonissos, within the Building society Teachers which will meet the needs of the entire settlement.

Objectives - Benefits

You will need to be given the contribution of the act on Specific Target 11 of the invitation– "improving The efficiency in use of water resources and to ensure good quality drinking water to all the residents of Crete", as well as in the Index Results Τ3111 "Available daily supply of drinking water, from water management projects, the provision of drinking water" as it clearly will improve both the quantity and quality of available water in the region, with concomitant savings and protection of water resources. In particular, actual data for the consumptions made in the year 2019, 370 water consumed (recorded in water meters) 67.404 cubic meters of water, for which it is estimated that pumped 96.291 cubic meters of water (considering the losses at 30%), forming the index Τ3111 in 264 cubic meters per day. The index CO18 on the basis of the data provided for the beneficiary population, formed in 2.781 residents.

End of the project in question is compatible with the measures proposed and included in the management plan river basin of the Aqueous Compartment of Crete, in accordance with the number.ref. 418/26-02-2020 (956/03-03-20 protocol ΔΕΥΑΧ) document of the department of Water of the Decentralized Administration of Crete attached.

On the basis of the last census of EL.STAT. 2011, the De Facto* population of the area of intervention is to 1.018 inhabitants, while on the basis of the census of 2001 was 550 inhabitants. Therefore, the population of 2021 is the year of the start of the project, taking into account the change in the previous years, amounting to 1.884 residents.

Also, according to data from the Greek national tourism organisation, in the village Karteros there are extra 377 beds service of tourists from hotels and apartments, while the Construction Association of Teachers, in the franchised area of, of which is manufactured and the new tank to service the whole of the settlement. The cooperative is located in a quite advanced stage of construction and is made of 130 plots which propagated with four residents, on average, per plot give us other 520 registered at residents.

Therefore, the estimated total beneficiary population by the construction of the project, and given the fact that a water supply project as a whole benefits of social and economic activity in the region, is 2.781 residents
